Day 1: Arrive Nairobi

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, you will be met by an OTA representative who will assist with the transfer to your accommodation. If exploring is your aim, a range of shopping experiences include luxury malls and Maasai open air markets, or for a real taste of Africa, visit nearby Nairobi National Park.

Day 2: Nairobi to Samburu

After breakfast drive north to 'Born Free' country where Joy and George Adamson raised Elsa the lion cub in the wild and beautiful Shaba National Reserve which along with Buffalo Springs is part of the area known as 'Samburu'. Arrive in time for lunch.

Day 3: Samburu National Reserve

Spend all day on safari in the reserve. Irrigated by the river, which is home to numerous hippo and crocodiles Samburu offers sanctuary to large herds of elephant, healthy numbers of lion, leopard, cheetah, plentiful plains game, reticulated giraffe, rare Beisa Oryx, kudu and gerenuk. It is also one of the few reserves in which you can see the Grevy’s zebra (rather than the more common Burchell's zebra found elsewhere) and the critically endangered wild dog. Offering 100 species of birds, the reserve is also home to the rare blue-shanked Somali ostrich.

Day 4: Samburu National Reserve to Aberdare National Park

Aberdare National Park has a diverse topography that includes icy rivers, spectacular waterfalls and rain forests. The flora and fauna is quite unique and is not found elsewhere in the country, except on Mount Kenya. Leopard, elephant, serval, water buck, reed buck, dik-dik, rhino and the rare bongo can all be found here. Bird life is also plentiful, including the monkey eating crowned eagle.

Day 5: Aberdare National Park to Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast drive south to Lake Nakuru which is the most famous of the Great Rift Valley lakes and home to a shifting population of over one million flamingos.

Lake Nakuru National Park is situated in the Rift Valley region of Kenya and comprises of the blue-green Lake Nakuru, bushy grasslands and yellow acacia woodlands, the Great Rift Valley Escarpments hills and ridges. The park’s swamps and marshes are home to water birds including the famed pink flamingo and around 450 terrestrial bird species. The buffalo, white rhino, zebra, giraffe, hyena and over 56 mammal species are in abundance.

You can stay in world class lodges such as the spectacular Sarova Lion Hill Lodge or Lake Nakuru Lodge. Alternatively you have the option of pitching tents in the special campsites: Reedbuck, Nyuki, Nyati, Rhino, Soysambu, Chui or Naishi. Public campsites at Backpakers and Makalia Falls provide additional camping options.

Day 6: Lake Nakuru National Park to Maasai Mara Game Reserve

Travel to the Maasai Mara, Kenya’s most famous wildlife reserve and the setting for much of the film Out of Africa. It is classic savannah grasslands, where animals are plentiful and the vistas spectacular. You will have many wildlife-viewing opportunities in the Maasai Mara Reserve, which is inhabited by many of Africa's most popular wild animals, including lion, cheetah, elephant, leopard, black rhino and hippo. There are over 500 resident species of birds in the park including ostrich, larks and sunbirds as well as the lovely Lilac-breasted Roller.

Day 7: Maasai Mara

The area is famous for rolling grassland and for the Mara River, which runs through the reserve from north to south. The reserve covers an area of 700 square miles and forms part of the Serengeti ecosystem, hosting the world-famous spectacle of the annual migration of up to two million wildebeest, thousands of zebra and an escort of carnivores as they follow the rains and succulent new grass. A costly trek as many of the lame, laggard and sick will fall prey to ravenous packs of predators and many more will die crossing the swirling flood waters of the Mara River.

Optional activities (at additional cost) include a balloon safari for an exhilarating experience over the savannah as the early sun rises and the animals are more active. Or, you can visit a Maasai Village to see how this nomadic tribe has existed through the millennia in harmony with nature.

Day 8: Maasai Mara to Lake Victoria

After breakfast you depart for the shores of Lake Victoria via the Isebania border post where, after the cross border formalities, you will have picnic lunch en route. You will then spend the evening at leisure or go for an evening canoe ride to the local fishing villages. This is at an extra cost.

Day 9: Lake Victoria to Serengeti National Park

After your breakfast, you will depart for the Serengeti National Park to arrive in time for lunch. You will then spend the afternoon at leisure before going for an evening game drive till dusk when you return to your accommodation.

Day 10: Serengeti National Park

Today, after your breakfast, collect lunch boxes and proceed for a full day of game viewing in the Serengeti. You will have a picnic lunch in the course of the day and later return to your accommodation.

Serengeti is the stage on which the most spectacular wonders of nature takes place: the Great Migration. It is in this park that millions of ungulates comprising of wildebeests and zebras make that all important trek from the Serengeti to the Maasai Mara in Kenya. But that's not all the Serengeti has to offer; it boasts the largest and highest concentration of wildlife in the world. Spanning an impressive 15,000 sq km area, this savannah is home to all the members of the Big 5, the splendid cheetah, gazelles, African wild dog, giraffes and approximately 500 species of bird, making it a bird watcher's paradise as well.

Day 11: Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro

After your breakfast, you will depart for the Ngorongoro National Conservation Area to arrive in time for lunch at your accommodation. Thereafter, you will go for an afternoon game drive in the Ngorongoro crater till late in the evening when you return to your accommodation.

This area’s main attraction is the Ngorongoro Crater, fondly known as “Africa’s Garden of Eden”. A candidate for the new Seven Wonders of the World, this massive crater holds its own in that category. Being the world’s largest unbroken caldera, Ngorongoro is home to over 25,000 animals. It is considered one of the best game-viewing spots in the world with a chance to see the big five, zebras and wildebeests. The crater holds almost every individual species of wildlife in East Africa including the extremely rare and critically endangered Black Rhino.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area (2)

Day 12: Ngorongoro Conservation Area to Lake Manyara National Park

This morning, after enjoying your breakfast, start the journey with a scenic view to Lake Manyara National Park, where you will arrive in time for lunch at your accommodation. Afternoon at leisure then proceed for an evening game drive till dusk when you return to your accommodation.

Lake Manyara National Park is located in northern Tanzania covering an area of about 330sq km of which 70% (approximately 200 sq km) is occupied by the lake when the water levels are high. The ecosystem in the region is diverse and it consists of ground water forests, acacia woodland and open grassland along the lakeshore and sustains a wealth of wildlife whose inhabitants include hippos, monkeys, flamingos and other varieties of birdlife. More than 400 species have been recorded. The park is famous for the elusive tree-climbing lions that inhabit the woodland between the lake and the Rift Valley.

Day 13: Lake Manyara to Arusha

After your breakfast, you will depart for Arusha to arrive in time for lunch before transferring to the airport in time for your afternoon departure flight for an onward travel.
