    12 Day Capital to Coast

    Days 1 & 2: Nairobi

    There are plenty of activities you can choose from for the next two days including:

    Day 3: Nairobi to Amboseli

    This morning depart on your safari adventure. Drive to Amboseli National Park nestled at the foothills of Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. Amboseli is a top destination in Kenya for wildlife. Indeed, one of the classic images of East Africa is that of a herd of elephant strolling across the plains with the snow-capped peak of Kilimanjaro in the background. It is to catch this sight that people flood to Amboseli National Park. While Kilimanjaro is actually across the border in Tanzania, Amboseli has a perfect view of the world’s tallest free-standing mountain, rising an impressive 5895 metres above the plains.

    Day 4: Amboseli National Park

    A day of game driving in the park, which contains swamp grounds in which elephants and hippos are in abundance.  A variety of plains game, antelopes and birds can be also be seen.

    Day 5: Amboseli to Tsavo West

    The best time to view the majestic mountain is at dawn, when the clouds lift and the light is clear and soft.  Wake in the early morning to witness the African sunrise lighten the majestic mountain, distributing its golden rays to the dry savannah of Amboseli National Park. It’s a very good photo opportunity.  After breakfast depart for Tsavo West National Park and enjoy an afternoon game drive through the lava formations.

    Day 6: Tsavo West to Lumo Sanctuary

    Tsavo West and Lumo are adjacent to one another so it will be like a full day of game driving as we transfer from one park to the next.  Red elephants are a feature of this area... but it's only because they bathe in red dust!

    Day 7: Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary to Itinyi

    Spend the morning in the wildlife reserve before heading Mama Mercy’s Ndoto Bandas and community project.

    Approximate driving time: 1 1/2 hours

    Day 8: Itinyi

    Mama Mercy is involved with several community projects in the village of Itinyi.  One group of women have set up a plant nursery while another are committed to ensuring girls get a safe secondary education through the building of a boarding house.  Spend the day meeting the women, with the option to experience a home stay overnight.

    Day 9:  Itinyi to Mombasa

    After breakfast, head towards the coast to Mombasa.  From the peace of the village to the hustle and bustle of this historic port town, we finish our day by the beach.

    Days 10-12: Mombasa


    These days are up to you.  Relax on the beach, shop in the Old Town, visit Fort Jesus, or experience the ancient Kayas where the local tribes once worshipped their gods.  The Kayas are forests that held significance in traditional culture in this area and there are a number of Kayas extending down the coast into Tanzania.  A local guide will take you through Kaya Kinondo, one Kaya that has become an eco-tourism project supporting the villages that have used the Kaya for centuries of ritual and worship.
