It’s a fairly steep ascent for about 3km from the base to the crater rim – it is (or was) a volcano. You can then opt to circumnavigate the entire crater rim, which is approximately 7km, before descending back to the base. From the top you can have expansive views of the Great Rift Valley and Lake Naivasha. Guides and porters are available upon request.

Depart early from you Nairobi accommodation for the nearly 200km drive to Nakuru. Lake Nakuru National Park is famous as the home to thousands of greater and lesser flamingos. From your Nairobi accommodation we drive out of the city to the nearby Ngong Hills. This was where Karen Blixen (of Out of Africa fame) preferred to hike and hunt with her companion Denys Finch Hatton. The hike is about 2.5-3 hours long through Masai land. It’s a great day out of the hustle and bustle of downtown Nairobi.

Depart in the early afternoon and drive approximately 150km to the Magadi Community Eco-Tourism Project. Our entry fees pay for the nearby salt company to transport fresh water to the community and for students in the community to go to university. We will arrive in the late afternoon as the sun begins to fade, making it the perfect temperature to enjoy the Hot Springs. We camp by the springs and can bathe under the stars as our campfire crackles close by. The next morning, after a final dip, we return to Nairobi.
