Mount Kenya Climb
A grand climb to Africa’s second-highest peak – this six-day hike on Kenya’s jewel is challenging and rewarding for trekker’s of all levels of experience.

Transfer from Nairobi to Nanyuki for dinner and overnight while the guide organises the porters and the final arrangement for the hike. Before the climb you will meet your guide who will brief you on what to expect.

After an early breakfast, start hiking at the Sirimon gate (2,600m) for your acclimatization climb to Old Moses (3,300m). This is an 8km (3 hours) hike ranging from gradual to flat trekking. Enjoy dinner and the night at the Old Moses bandas (small huts). The bandas are a communal hostel-like accommodation shared by climbers. Comfort level is very standard.

Early start to Shiptons (4,200m) a 14km (6-7 hours) hike that should confirm your fitness for the climb to the summit. Hike through the moorland of Mackinders Valley, stopping for lunch on the way. Enjoy dinner and spend the night at camp. Camping is done in tents, thermo-floor mats and sleeping bags.

Very early morning (pre-dawn) rise for tea, coffee and cookies before the tough challenge to the summit (4,985m). It’s a 4km climb in the dark as you aim to catch the sunrise. Have a brief photo session before dropping back to Shiptons for breakfast before your long day trekking down to Mintos for overnight camping (4300m). It’s a total of about 6 hours hiking.

Descend to Chogoria Park Gate for five hours, picnic lunch on the way, dinner and overnight at Mt Kenya Meru Bandas.

After breakfast descend leisurely through the Chogoria forest for 4 hours to connect with your transfer vehicle to Nairobi.
