    Virunga Gorilla Exploration

    This trip is an amazing chance to visit a country that few tourists see - the Congo. You will start your adventure in Virunga National Park, still a relatively undiscovered gem, which is home to about a quarter of the world’s critically endangered mountain gorillas. Trekking this vast and beautful forest to meet the gorillas or to climb one of the many volcanoes will suit all of those with an unquenchable thirst for the next chapter in their African adventure.

    Day 1: Nairobi to Virunga National Park, Congo

    On arrival in Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you will be met by your private guide and taken to check in for your scheduled flight to Kigali, Rwanda. On arrival in Rwanda, you will transfer via road to Virunga National Park, Congo. Once here you will have some time to relax at the lodge and prepare for the next 2 days of trekking.

    Days 2 & 3: Virunga National Park

    You can do as little or as much as you like here. Ideally the lodge will be your starting point for gorilla, volcano and chimp adventures with your private guide. However, if you or some members of the group wish to purely chill out, Mikeno Lodge is the perfect place to have a relaxing time-out from life in a peaceful location. A stay here is an exceptional experience for all travellers among the wildlife and beauty of Virunga National Park.

    Day 4: Virunga to Nairobi

    Today you take a road transfer from the Congo to Kigali where you will fly back to Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. On arrival you will say goodbye to your private guide and taken to your accommodation where you will be met by our resident Rothschild Giraffe who roam the grounds of the sanctuary surrounding this classic manor house. The giraffes are completely wild, but enjoy being fed by guests, making this an experience unlike any other in the world. After lunch you can visit the Giraffe Centre located within the Manor’s grounds. The nearby Karen Blixen Museum offers a glimpse into the life of the author of the infamous book “Out of Africa” and en-route you will have a chance to purchase gifts from local designers and artisans.

    Day 5: Nairobi to Laikipia

    After a magical breakfast with the giraffes, you will be taken to Nairobi Wilson Airport for a short flight to Nanyuki. You will be met at Nanyuki and transferred to Solio Lodge for a late lunch.

    Days 6 & 7: Laikipia

    Plenty of exciting activities are on offer. You’ll find horse riding, trekking and trout fishing in the Aberdare National Park and fantastic views of Mount Kenya from the lodge or a helicopter. Large numbers of black and white rhinoceros are found on the Game Conservancy along with the big cats, other wildlife and indigenous exotic birds.

    Day 8: Laikipia to Samburu

    From the Solio airstrip it is a 20min private charter flight to Sasaab. On arrival you will be taken to the lodge in time for lunch.

    Days 9 & 10: Samburu

    The hilly terrain in Samburu land in the north of Kenya, is different to other parts of the country. Here you’ll find the Samburu Special Five - Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk and Beisa oryx. During your stay at Sasaab guests are offered a glimpse into Samburu life, learning about their traditions and culture. Here you can explore the wild, embark on a fly camping adventure, take a ride on a camel through the wilderness or relax at the luxurious spa.

    Day 11: Samburu to Nairobi

    After breakfast at Sasaab you’ll catch a flight from Samburu to Nairobi Wilson Airport. You will be met at Wilson Airport and transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight home.
